Quick answer

Start with this

Open the Areas menu on the right side of the screen, choose Trait Reroll, walk to the NPC, select your unit, and reroll. It costs Trait Reroll items — earned from playing, quests, and codes. Every unit stores two traits with only one active, so a good roll is never wasted. Before spending: your chance of hitting a Mythic-tier trait is 4.05% per roll, a Secret-tier 0.1%, and Immortal pities at 1,300 rolls (community data).

Step by step

What to do in-game

Follow the steps in order, then use the notes below to avoid wasting limited currency or materials.

  1. Step 1

    Reach the Trait Reroll NPC

Press the Areas button in the right-side menu, pick the Trait Reroll option, and walk your character to the NPC it marks. Rerolling is physical — you stand at the station, not in a menu.

Tip: The Areas menu is also where summoning and upgrading happen; learn it once, use it everywhere.

  2. Step 2

    Select the unit and roll

At the NPC, select the unit whose trait you want to change and confirm the reroll. The roll consumes Trait Reroll items and overwrites into one of the unit's two trait slots — the game decides which.

Tip: Reroll the unit you actually field. A perfect trait on a benched unit earns nothing.

  3. Step 3

    Manage your two slots

Each unit stores two traits with only one active. A strong roll can sit stored until you want it — swap the active trait at the same NPC instead of rerolling again.

Tip: Store the good roll, keep rerolling only when both slots are junk.

How it works

The details that change your decision

Where Trait Rerolls come from

Playing the game is the base source: waves, quests, and mode rewards drop Trait Reroll items. The launch-window codes are the fastest top-up — ChallengesFixed alone grants 10, THANKYOU! and AO grant 25 each, and GAMESPEED adds 10 more. That is 70+ free rerolls before counting anything you farm.

No source publishes a per-reroll gem cost or a shop price, so treat rerolls as earned currency, not bought currency. The gems guide covers the income loop that keeps them coming.

The honest odds — per tier and per roll

Community-reported tier probabilities (via PGG): Rare 50%, Epic 30%, Legendary 9%, Mythic 4.05%, Secret 0.1%. Individual traits inside a tier have their own rates — the full table with per-trait numbers and source labels is on the traits page.

The pity system matters more than the rates: public community tables report that Immortal (the Secret trait) is guaranteed at 1,300 rerolls. You are never infinitely unlucky on the top roll — you are 1,300-deep unlucky at worst, subject to patch changes.

The math before you spend

Each reroll is independent: the chance of hitting a target at least once in N rolls is 1 − (1 − rate)^N. At 4.05% per roll, 50 rerolls give you an 87% chance of at least one Mythic-tier trait; at 0.1%, 300 rerolls still leave you at 26% for a Secret-tier.

Run your exact numbers in the reroll calculator before spending — it dual-computes on the two traits where public sources disagree on the rate, so you see both answers instead of a false average.

A naming note: Trait Rerolls, not Trait Crystals

Some older community posts call the currency Trait Crystals. That term does not appear in any current source we check — the wiki, Beebom, and PGG all say Trait Rerolls. If a guide tells you to farm crystals, it is describing the same item with an outdated name.

The same honesty applies to costs: nobody publishes what a single reroll costs in gems (if a gem price even exists). Any site quoting an exact price is extrapolating.

If you're stuck

Check these before retrying

The Areas menu has no Trait Reroll option

Progress further into the hub area first — the NPC stations unlock as you open the map. If the option exists but the NPC is unreachable, re-enter the game; launch-week patches moved NPC positions more than once.

Reroll consumed but trait looks unchanged

Check both trait slots — the new roll may have landed in the stored slot while the active one stayed. Swap the active trait at the same NPC before concluding the roll failed.

Out of Trait Rerolls

Redeem every active code first (70+ rerolls available at time of check), then run quest-heavy modes — quests are the documented steady source beyond wave drops.

Rate you see differs from ours

The public sources themselves disagree on a couple of traits — we show both numbers with their sources rather than averaging. In-game results beat all published numbers; our calculator lets you enter a custom rate.

Common mistakes

Fix these before trying again

Rerolling before Level 10

Codes unlock at Level 10 and they are the cheapest reroll source in the game. Level up first, redeem everything, then reroll with a full wallet.

Rerolling bench units

Traits only work while a unit is fielded with that trait active. Spend rerolls on your actual carry — the tier list shows which units deserve them.

Chasing Immortal on every unit

Immortal is one per team. After your first, aim the pity math at Overseer-class Mythics (4.1%) for the rest of the roster.

Ignoring trait-ascension overlap

Units with crit ascensions (Madaro IV/V add +25% crit chance and damage) waste crit traits. Match the trait to the stat holes in the unit's own upgrades.

FAQ

Common questions

How do you reroll traits in Anime Origins?

Areas button (right menu) → Trait Reroll → walk to the NPC → select unit → Reroll. It consumes Trait Reroll items; each unit stores two traits with one active.

How do you get Trait Rerolls?

Playing (waves, quests, mode rewards) and codes. The active code set grants 70+ rerolls combined — ChallengesFixed 10, THANKYOU! 25, AO 25, GAMESPEED 10, plus TYKaito!'s bundle.

What are the odds of a Mythic or Secret trait?

Community-reported per-roll tier odds: Mythic 4.05%, Secret 0.1% (via PGG). Individual traits vary within tiers — see the trait table. Immortal, the Secret trait, pities at 1,300 rerolls.

Is there a pity system for traits?

Yes for the top trait: public community tables report Immortal guaranteed at 1,300 rerolls. Pity values for lower tiers are not published, and the number is patch-sensitive.

Are Trait Crystals the same as Trait Rerolls?

Yes — 'Trait Crystals' is an older community name for the same currency. Current sources (wiki, Beebom, PGG) all use Trait Rerolls.

Can I move a trait to another unit?

No documented system transfers traits between units. Rerolls are per-unit — roll on the unit that will field the trait.

How many rerolls should I save before rolling?

Work backwards from the calculator: for a 90% chance at any Mythic-tier trait at 4.05% per roll you need about 56 rerolls. For a specific Mythic like Overseer (4.1% is the tier rate; Overseer itself is lower), model it directly.
