Quick answer

Is Madaro worth using?

Yes — Madaro is one of the three launch Secrets and the consensus boss-killer. Pro Game Guides places him S and Beebom SS, and they agree on almost nothing else this week. What makes him special is burst: Heaven Splitter hits for 500% damage at 3x range on a unit that also keeps a defensive Susanoo up nearly permanently. One correction matters more than any tier chip: he is unlocked through the Strongest Shinobi quest chain, not the summon banner — the full checklist is below.

Tier placements are the two public tier lists (Pro Game Guides and Beebom), shown side by side because they disagree on several units — see the full tier list for how we handle conflicts.

How to get

How to get Madaro

Madara is a quest reward, not a banner summon. The chain is long but the last step is guaranteed: your first clear of the Ghost's Trial hands him over with no roll.

  1. Step 1

Farm Hidden Sand Legend 1–3 (Story → Legend Stages). These stages drop the sealed artifacts SND-1 to SND-4. SND-1, SND-2 and SND-3 hold the three Gunbai parts you need later; SND-4 is also your only source of Madara's Tablet and of the Rinnegan.

  2. Step 2

Open the artifacts at the Robyn – Artifacts NPC until a Madara's Tablet drops, then use the tablet from your inventory. That is what unlocks the locked Unit Questline: The Strongest Shinobi.

  3. Step 3

Clear all 14 objectives in The Strongest Shinobi quest list: kill counts, Sasuke- and Naruto-specific kills and damage, every Hidden Sand star quest, and Hidden Sand Infinite wave 100 plus 10m damage in that mode.

  4. Step 4

Craft the Ghost's Gunbai at the crafting NPC — the station is labelled Karisa – Crafting in the walkthrough we reviewed, and Kanna [Crafting] in an older artifact session, so go by the recipe name rather than the vendor. Recipe: Gunbai Staff + Gunbai Base + Gunbai Bandage plus a Gold fee. Parts come from SND-1, SND-2 and SND-3 respectively.

  5. Step 5

Open your inventory and press [Use] on the Ghost's Gunbai to enter The Warring Ghost trial. Treat it as a fixed-loadout check rather than a gear check.

  6. Step 6

Claim the Key of The Ghost. Its own panel reads “Used to unlock Madara. The first clear is guaranteed.” — so the unlock itself is not a gamble once the chain is done.

Madara's Tablet drop rate by artifact grade

SND-4 [Intact]
2%
SND-4 [Empowered]
3%
SND-4 [Perfected]
5%
SND-4 [Ascendant]
10%

Read off the in-game artifact panel during a 2026-08-20 quest walkthrough. Artifact grade is raised with Umbral Splinters, so a higher grade is the honest way to shorten this farm. One observed build — treat the numbers as version-bound, not permanent.

Hidden Sand Legend star conditions (Conquer the Sand)

Legend 1
No base damage · Hill units only · Magic damage only
Legend 2
Fewer than 6 units · Magic damage only · No base damage
Legend 3
Fewer than 6 units · Physical damage only · No base damage

The magic-only and physical-only stars are the usual wall: build one team for each damage type before you commit to the farm.

Kit and role

How Madaro fits a team

Heaven Splitter — the 500% nuke

Madaro's active ability, Heaven Splitter, deals 500% damage across 3x range. On a boss wave that is the single largest documented burst in the game, and it is why both tier lists independently tag him as the boss-killer even while disagreeing about other units.

Timing matters more than placement with this ability: fire it when the boss is stationary mid-animation or caught in your stall units, not while it walks between ranges.

Susanoo uptime — 20 seconds, growing to 180

Susanoo Time starts at 20 seconds and extends on every kill, up to a 180-second cap. On dense waves he approaches permanent uptime, which turns him from a nuke into a sustained carry.

Susanoo Ribcage blocks 50% of incoming damage and grants 3 seconds of debuff/CC immunity — meaningful on modes that push enemies into your units.

Heaven's Pressure — the every-5th proc

Every fifth attack summons a Susanoo Blade dealing 75% damage in an area and applying Calamity for 6 seconds. This is the wave-clear half of his kit and the reason he carries AoE roles, not just boss fights.

Attack-speed buffs compound this proc — another reason cooldown and damage traits outperform flat range on him.

Edo Tensei evolution — Rinnegan, not banners

Madaro does evolve into Madaro (Edo Tensei). The Rinnegan that drops from SND-4 artifacts is tagged in-game as an evolution material, and the Evolve room also consumes Remnants alongside it.

What we cannot state yet is the exact Remnant count or whether the cost is identical on every account, because the evolve panel is the only authority and we have not read it on our own run. Check your own panel before you spend Remnants or Perfect Stat Prisms on him.

Ascension path — crit is already solved

His five ascensions go +3% damage, +5% range, +5% damage, then +25% crit chance and +25% crit damage. By ascension V his crit stats are effectively capped by the game's own upgrades.

That is why the trait advice below deliberately avoids crit rolls — you would be paying rerolls for stats you already own.

Suggested traits for Madaro

His ascension track already caps crit chance and crit damage, so the community consensus is to stack raw damage traits and let the ascensions handle crit. Immortal is the ceiling pick (one per team), Overseer is the realistic Mythic target — both add damage multipliers on top of a 500% nuke.

Community picks, not official data — the trait table has every effect and rate, and the reroll calculator shows your odds before you spend.

Spend decision

Should you spend gems chasing Madaro?

If bossing is your wall: yes. Madaro's Coffin-Trap-style competition (Valcrad) trades raw burst for control, so teams that need damage over stall pick Madaro first. Both public tier lists put him in their top band — S on Pro Game Guides, SS on Beebom — and that agreement is rare this early.

If you farm instead of boss: park the gems. An income unit like Bluma compounds every wave you play, while a boss-killer only pays off on the walls you actually hit. Chase the quest chain when story or raid progress stalls, not before — and note that those gems cannot buy you out of it, because the unlock is a quest reward.

Cost sanity check: 1,000 Yen per placement is premium. In longer modes you will re-place him after deaths, so keep a Yen buffer rather than maxing placements early.

FAQ

Madaro questions

Is Madaro the best unit in Anime Origins?

He is one of the three consensus top Secrets (PGG S, Beebom SS) and the strongest documented boss-killer thanks to Heaven Splitter's 500% burst. Whether he beats Valcrad or Cursed Lover depends on whether you need damage, control, or flexibility.

Is it Madara or Madaro?

The in-game name is Madaro; the community wiki's URL uses the original name Madara. Both spellings get searched heavily, and this page covers both.

How much does Madaro cost to place?

1,000 Yen per placement per the wiki's Madara detail page, with five ascension upgrades after that.

What's the best trait for Madaro?

Damage multipliers — Immortal if you win the 0.1% roll (one per team), Overseer as the realistic Mythic pick. Skip crit traits: his ascensions IV and V already add +25% crit chance and +25% crit damage.

How do I get or unlock Madara in Anime Origins?

Do the quest, not the banner. Farm Hidden Sand Legend stages for SND-1 to SND-4 artifacts, open them at the Robyn – Artifacts NPC until a Madara's Tablet drops, use that tablet to unlock the Strongest Shinobi questline, finish its 14 objectives, craft the Ghost's Gunbai at Karisa – Crafting, run The Warring Ghost trial, then claim the Key of The Ghost — the first clear is guaranteed.

Is there a Madara questline, and is it the same as Madara's evolution?

They are separate. The questline (The Strongest Shinobi) is what unlocks the unit at all. Evolution is a later step in the Evolve room, which is where the Rinnegan from SND-4 artifacts is spent. Finishing the questline does not evolve him for you.

How do I evolve Madaro?

He evolves into Madaro (Edo Tensei) in the Evolve room using the Rinnegan plus Remnants. The Rinnegan comes from SND-4 artifact runs and its in-game tag marks it as an evolution material. The exact Remnant counts are not verified here, so read your own evolve panel before spending resources.

Can I pull Madaro from the summon banner instead?

The documented route is the quest reward, and the first Ghost's Trial clear hands him over with no roll. Banner pools rotate and we have not verified that he is ever in one, so treat banner pulls as a gamble on an unverified pool rather than a shortcut.

What element is Madaro?

Fire, per the wiki roster — relevant when elemental type advantages start mattering in harder modes.
